Speed issues
Although advertised with Gigabit Ethernet, the CPU etc. is not able to deliver a speed of even fast ethernet. Regardless of implemented harddisk and network, users report a max. transfer speeds of about 7 MB/s, mostly less.
Use with Pinnacle Soundbridge
The good news is this Just Worked. The pinnacle edition of the SoundBridge explicitly does not support use of iTunes type sharing, and, indeed, doesn't recognise the iTunes server feature of the N299. But as soon as you enable the Media Server service, as long as you tick the box for the iTunes folder so the media server has access to the MP3 files, then the SB offers the N299 as an available server and can browse the contents of the MediaServer folder(s) for MP3s.
