What is a NAS?

A NAS, or Network Attached Storage. is a computer that shares files, music, photos. Some people build their own NAS from components and often use Linux as the operating system to provide the services they require as this provides the most flexibility and can be the lowest cost, especially if they have an old PC that is not currently used. However, it can often be easier to buy a new NAS as these are preconfigured and can be simple to set up.
